What's Up @ TEC! July/August Edition

by Beth McAuley

Published at 2014-07-22

It is mid-July and FIFA has come and gone (sorry, Argentina)!

In June, we attended several informative professional conferences and reported our findings in a series of blogs: the Berkshire Conference on Women Historians; the Editors’ Association of Canada’s Conference; and the Indexing Society’s Annual Conference.

Team editor Lesley-Anne ran her first 5K ever (congratulations, Lesley-Anne!) and is training for her second run of the season. Our intern Karen completed her three-months with us; and we’ve hired Melissa to assist with copy editing an 800-page manuscript.

Here’s a look at some of the other amazing projects keeping us busy this summer.

A SAMPLE OF COPY EDITING PROJECTS NOW PUBLISHED
The Sopranos: Born under a Bad Sign, by Franco Ricci (UTP, July 2014).

Italian Women Writers: Gender and Everyday Life in Fiction and Journalism, 1870–1910, by Katherine Mitchell (Toronto Italian Studies, UTP, 2014).

"Here Comes a Lot of Judgment: Honey Boo Boo as a Site of Reclamation and Resistance," by May Friedman, Journal of Popular Television, vol. 2, no. 1 (April 2014).

NEW ACADEMIC COPY-EDITING PROJECTS
*Academic Journal Editing
We completed the copy editing and layout of the Canadian Journal of Education, vol. 37, no. 1, now online. We are pleased to announce that we will be working with CJE on the forthcoming issues over the summer and into the fall.

As well, we copy edited several journal papers for clients on the subjects of outdoor recreation sustainability, corporate social responsibility and taxation, the environmental effects of mining in Malaysia, and maternal-focused government policies in Russia to offset the declining birth rate.

*Academic Book Manuscripts
Some of the exciting projects we’ve completed include a history of rock ’n’ roll in America, an analysis of the Canadian Charter Revolution, and a history of the Court of Appeal in Ontario.

A few new projects that have landed on our desks include the first volume of letters documenting the life and times of a nineteenth-century Mennonite in Russia (the 800-pager), and the role of senior women editors in the Canadian newspaper industry.

We are proofreading an anthology analyzing the cost of health care around the world, and preparing a back-of-the-book index for a comprehensive study of federal research and development policy in Canada.

NON-FICTION EDITING
This summer and into the fall, we will be editing and proofreading Explore St. Mark's Coptic Museum: An Illustrated Introduction, being compiled and written by Helene Moussa, Volunteer Curator.

BUSINESS COPY EDITING & PROOFREADING
We continue to work on the writing and development of an online instruction manual for Supply Chain Management Canada. We have also been proofing materials for a new business client in the digital signage industry.

COPY EDITING & PROOFREADING MAGAZINES
We copy edited and proofread the summer editions of Dolce Vita and City Life magazines, and completed a rush proofread for our new client U of T Medicine Magazine.

SELF-PUBLISHING EDITING PROJECTS
Congratulations to our client Ann Eyerman, whose self-published memoir Mediterranean Journey: A Young Woman's Travels through 1970s Europe will be available on Amazon later in July. For a sneak peek, visit Ann's website.

Over the summer, we will be completing a substantive edit and copy edit of a guide to personal development that helps women in their 50s plan for and achieve personal goals.

As well, we are completing the editing of a client’s memoir that details his escape to London from Germany during the Second World War where he launched a professional career that took him around the world.
